The Washington County Board of County Commissioners is committed to assisting our local businesses during these trying and uncertain times. With the passing of the CARES Act into law last week, we understand that many of you have questions as to how this law may benefit your company.
Included in the law is a new loan program called the Paycheck Protection Program, which is intended to provide capital to small businesses to help them meet their ongoing expenses including payroll costs. The borrower will not be required to repay the portion of the loan that is used for the purposes specifically allowed in the statute.
Starting April 3, 2020, small businesses and sole proprietorships may apply. Starting April 10, 2020, independent contractors and self-employed individuals may apply. We encourage you to apply as quickly as you can because there is a funding cap.
Included with this packet is a Fact Sheet prepared by the U.S. Treasury Department that we believe will be helpful to you. A copy of the application is also included. We are sharing all of this with you because it is our goal to NOT lose one business in Washington County due to this pandemic.
