The mission of the Human Resources Department is to enable Washington County employees to meet their service deliverables and responsibilities by offering:

Benefits:  Our way of saying thank you.

Approaches and Practices:  Our responsibilities to you.

The Human Resources Department is directed by the County Commissioners to oversee employee relations and also to manage all functions of the applicant process.  Affirmative action programs, equal opportunity and diversity assurances, job-candidate assessment, and employee growth are responsibilities, and also priorities, of departmental personnel.  In Human Resources, workplace solutions are not always determined by set guidelines but by individual circumstances, because a valued employee is unique and priceless.  It is the goal of the departmental staff to attract, develop, and retain a highly diverse workforce, and to create and maintain a culture that promotes excellence throughout the organization.

Veterans' Preference eligibility has changed. Effective July 1, 2007 Operation Enduring Freedom (Oct 7, 2001 - present) and Operation Iraqi Freedom (Mar 19, 2003 - present) veterans will be eligible for preference. See F.S. 1.01(14) for more information. Additionally, F.S. 295.101 has been repealed and eligibility in the State of Florida is now perpetual, and no longer a single entitlement.

Other Responsibilities and Goals:  Our adherence to the law.

It is mandated that the Human Resources Director is to be responsible for labor relations, workers’ compensation administration, employee benefits, salary administration, safety and risk management programs, and to ensure that all workplace activities comply with applicable federal, state, and local laws pursuant to employment issues.
