The Washington County Grants Department is responsible for planning, writing, monitoring, and reviewing all Federal and State grant programs for the Board of County Commissioners. These programs include all Department of Transportation grants, as well as various disaster-related and hazard mitigation funding sources through the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA).
In addition, the Grants Department manages departmental grant acquisitions and state programs including indigent healthcare claims through the Health Care Responsibility Act (HCRA), Small County Recycling Grant, Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services funding, and others.
In 2015, the Grants Department was notified by FEMA that Washington County was selected as a recipient of a $1.16 million Staffing for Adequate Fire and Emergency Response (SAFER) grant. This four-year grant provides stipends, personal protective equipment, and training for the volunteer firefighters in Washington County.
The State Housing Initiatives Partnership (SHIP) also falls under the umbrella of the Grants Department. All resident applications are issued through the Northwest Florida Regional Planning Council. For more information about this program or to seek an application, please contact:
